AFER files amicus brief in school pushout case

AFER has filed an amicus brief in the M.G. v. Yakima School District case, concerning a Latino high school student banned indefinitely from attending school without disciplinary due process. AFER opposes the increasing practice of “push out” of students who need behavioral and academic supports to online programs that they lack the tools to access, as a punitive, disciplinary, and racially discriminatory measure without due process. AFER urges the Washington Supreme Court to enforce the right to an education as including the specific requirements of what a basic education must provide, as defined by the legislature.
