AFER supports increased oversight of Non Public Agencies

This legislative session SB 5315 was introduced to increase state oversight over private entities that receive public money to provide special education students in our state. The move came after significant reporting on abuse and violation of educational rights of disabled students at one Washington NPA. AFER advocated with the Senate Early Learning & K-12 Committee for physical site visits to these institutions by OSPI and school districts, and for shortening the time period that NPAs maintain preapproved status. AFER’s letter dated January 30, 2023.
